The official video game for this year’s Rugby World Cup will be released soon and HB Studios and 505 Games have been granted the exclusive rights to the game by Rugby World Cup Limited.
This means that the publishers and games developers have joined in partnership with USA Rugby, granting the use of team kits, squads and badges, giving gamers that authentic feel when they play the game, rather than having to use made-up players, kits and emblems.
General Manager at HB Studios, Alastair Jarvis, has said “From a developer perspective, working with an official license opens doors on the way to making a more immersive gaming experience.”
Players will be able to choose and lead their teams through the pool phase, progress to the final and maybe lift the coveted Webb Ellis Trophy. The players in the game will compete for their nation, wearing their shirts with pride, and, for the first time, HB Studios will give players the chance to fight for the glory of their country online, by challenging other players to matches on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.
Ian Howe, President of 505 Games explained that “as with any sports title, we feel authenticity is key with Rugby World Cup 2011, and with that in mind, the involvement of USA Rugby was an essential element of this title.”
“Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the US and we’re pleased to be able to bring it to a new legion of fans in a big way. By partnering with 505 Games on the launch of the game, we’re positive that Rugby is about to explode in the US,” said Nigel Melville, CEO of USA Rugby.
The game is released in early September, while official demos are available on Xbox LIVE now.
