Despite being away at the World Cup with England, Manu Tuilagi has been the focus of some intense speculation regarding his future, with many areas of the press alleging that a move to Super 15 isn’t far away. However, the 20-year old has moved to end the speculation.
Tuilagi’s brother, Freddie, told a newspaper in New Zealand that the Leicester centre was “exploring his options”, but the centre – who has already scored four tries for England in just five appearances – is focussed on his careers with Leicester and, most importantly, England.
Under new RFU regulations, Tuilagi would be ineligible to represent his country if he were to join Super 15, something he would never consider doing by choice. He said “I am loving playing for England. This is my first World Cup and hopefully it won’t be my last. It means everything to get to this level. I feel pretty lucky to be playing for Leicester and England.”
Manu is quickly making himself an automatic selection in the England team at present, with Mike Tindall recently referring to him as “a freak” after his incredible performance against Romania as England won 67-3.
Tuilagi has said that his brother made the comments to the newspaper as an innocent comment, saying that Manu might not be in the England team in twelve months so he has to keep his options open regarding his promising career, as opposed to the story printed.
