It's a big exciting weekend for rugby fans this weekend as the Aviva Premiership kicks off on Friday night as Sale entertain Newcastle in a live televised game.
Expect this season to be a close fought, exciting encounter with many teams having invested in new players with the ambition of kicking on.
My tip this weekend is Exeter. They have put a lot of money and effort into making sure they are capable of competing in the Premiership following last season's promotion and although they start with a tough first match at home to Gloucester, I think they have enough to run out victorious.
Perhaps the biggest game of the weekend is the derby match that sees Northampton host Leicester. This promises to be full of blood, sweat and tears and I'm going to plug for the Tigers, the reigning champions. They have great strength and in Toby Flood they have a picture of consistency that can turn the match in their favour.
Elsewhere, England ladies have a chance of winning the World Cup when they tackle favourites New Zealand in the final - the same showpiece that we were left with in both 2002 and 2006. The Black Ferns won both of those and I think they'll unfortunately have too much for England on Sunday and run out winners by some margin. I hope I'm wrong!
Also on the international stage, South Africa host Australia in the Tri-Nations in Bloemfontein on Saturday. With one win apiece so far, and both games having been thrillers, expect much of the same this time out. South Africa won the last fixture 44-31 and I expect the reigning champions to build on this and claim another win, although expect it to be tight.
A cracking weekend of action is in order. I hope you enjoy it all.
