So we come to the final club in the Aviva Premiership, Leeds Carnegie, and there’s not really a great deal to say other than these guys are down!
Relegated. Slipped to the drop. However you want to say it, Leeds Carnegie will not be playing Aviva Premiership rugby next season.
So far they have played five, lost five and by any standards this is relegation form. They are the lowest scorers in the division with 81 and they have shipped the most posts by some margin with 168. They are the worst team in the league.
I’m sorry to be so blunt to all you Leeds fans but deep down you all know that what I’m saying is true. There isn’t enough quality in your team and you guys are out of here!
Only three players in the Leeds squad have reached the realms of double figures in the points scoring competition, with fly-half Ceiron Thomas the only one to make any serious dent in the chart with 32. Only Luther Burrell and Hendrie Fourie – both with 10 – are the other players to score a decent amount of points.
Their season so far consists of defeats to Bath (32-16), Gloucester (22-21), Saracens (26-14), Leicester (48-6) and London Irish (40-24) yet there is some light at the end of the tunnel following a win in the Amlin Challenge Cup two weeks ago against Bucuresti (23-9).
Next up for Leeds is Sale then Wasps, both at home, and if they are to try and salvage some pride from this season then they will need to take some points from these matches. After that they travel to Exeter and Harlequins, both difficult games, before they hosts champions elect Northampton.
All in all, it could be a very long winter, stretching into a long spring, for the team from Yorkshire with relegation the only thing to show for it.
