The 2011 RBS Six Nations will be here before we know it and the nations involved will be using it as a gauge of what they need to improve for the World Cup in New Zealand later in the year, but who do you think if going to win it next year?
We have had a look through the fixture list and it is so difficult to call this year, with the likes of England being handed better home draws than that of current Grand Slam holders France.
England have to travel to Wales for the opening fixture of the tournament on Friday February 4th and that promises to be a tempestuous affair as both countries look to get off to a great start.
Wales may have the likes of Gavin Henson back and firing on all cylinders by then so it will be an interesting opening encounter.
On the Saturday of that opening weekend, Italy entertain Ireland whilst France host Scotland, kick offs 2.30pm and 5pm respectively, so I expect both France and Ireland to take maximum points from those games.
The big one the following weekend sees Ireland entertain France on Sunday February 13th. This will be one of the matches of the tournament and could give us an idea of where the trophy is going to end up. England play host to Italy and Scotland entertain Wales the day prior.
The following weekend sees Italy versus Wales, England versus France and Scotland versus Ireland. We then see Italy v France, Wales v Ireland and England v Scotland before the final round of matches of Scotland v Italy, Ireland v England and France v Wales.
I personally think that it could be Ireland’s year. They host the two other best nations, England and France, at Lansdowne Road whilst France have to travel to both Ireland and England.
It promises to be an excellent tournament and it will give us an idea of who will be challenging at the World Cup later in 2011.
