As you all already know, we here at Imagine love a daft quote. Whether it’s a manager, a commentator or a player, we just can’t get enough of absolute stupidity portrayed by those who really should know better. That’s why the former New Zealand All Black Murray Mexted is one of our favourite members of the TV broadcasting world. If you’re not aware of his titanic contribution to the commentary gaffe, then be prepared to have your week well and truly lit up with some of the finest innuendo this side of Frankie Howard…
‘Strangely, in slow motion replay, the ball seemed to hang in the air for even longer.’ – Murray on physics.
"There's a couple of Hores on display tonight" – The Hore brothers, Charlie and Andrew were on display for their respective teams. Needless to say, dear Murray did not quite get the reference.
"You don't like to see hookers going down on players like that." – Thankfully, Murray has never commentated on football.
"I don't like this new law, because your first instinct when you see a man on the ground is to go down on him" – They say instinct is important in sport, but blimey…
"Darryl Gibson has been quite magnificent coming inside Andrew Mehrtens, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of the same today." – Mrs Gibson & Mehrtens were unavailable for comment.
TV Producer: "Murray can you hear me?....Murray can you hear me?" Murray: "No." – Murray takes his sound checks seriously.
"The lineouts of course are a great artform, I've always fantisised about lineouts, even in my sleep sometimes..." – A slightly too graphic insight into Murray’s private life.
"Well it was a great kick. We know Matthew Cooper's got tremendous rhythm now, he's smooth, smooth as a baby's bum... By Joves, that didn't slip out did it?" – It did Murray, it really did…
"Well it still does it for me, the tingle up the spine, the tingle in the loins" Well, er, why wouldn’t it?
"And he kicks it with his left-handed foot" – Murray lending his educated feelings to biology.
"As you know, I've been pumping Marty Leslie for a couple of years now." Once again, TMI…
"I can tell you it's a magnificent sensation when the gap opens up like that and you just burst right through." Well they do say that sportsmen have to have passion.
"Trapped like a shag on the rocks" I would offer a further sarcastic comment here, but the truth is I’m not even sure if this quote makes sense or not.
