CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) Allister Coetzee signed a three-year contract extension to remain as head coach of the Stormers Super 15 rugby team, reportedly turning down an offer to be on new Springboks boss Heyneke Meyer's staff.

WP Rugby, the union that oversees the Cape Town-based Stormers, said on Monday that three-year extensions had also been given to assistant coaches Robbie Fleck and Matthew Proudfoot as well as highly rated defense coach Jacques Nienaber, who was a consultant with the Springboks at the World Cup last year.

Coetzee was backline coach under Jake White when South Africa won the 2007 World Cup and was thought to be a target for Meyer, who is assembling his coaching team after being appointed last month.

"As a management team we were all eager to reaffirm our commitment to WP and hopefully this puts this matter to bed," Coetzee said, a reference to rumors linking him to a role with the Springboks.

The Stormers open their Super 15 season against Wellington Hurricanes in Cape Town on Saturday.
