Dusautoir joins 5 southerners on awards shortlist

Updated: October 19, 2011, 03:37

AUCKLAND, New Zealand(AP) France captain Thierry Dusautoir is the only northern hemisphere representative on a shortlist for the IRB player of the year award that includes three New Zealanders and two Australians.

Scrumhalf Piri Weepu, flanker Jerome Kaino and center Ma'a Nonu, who will line up for New Zealand against Dusautoir in Sunday's World Cup final, were included on the list unveiled by the International Rugby Board on Wednesday.

Australia, which beat New Zealand to claim the Tri-Nations title this season but lost to the All Blacks in last weekend's World Cup semifinals, had flanker David Pocock and scrumhalf Will Genia on the list.

The winner will be announced Monday. All Blacks captain Richie McCaw, who won the IRB award last year for the third time, did not make the shortlist.
