Howley stays on as Wales attack coach

Updated: November 21, 2011, 08:18

CARDIFF, Wales(AP) Rob Howley has agreed a new five-year contract as Wales assistant coach, tying him to the national team until after the 2015 World Cup.

The Welsh Rugby Union says Monday that Howley, the former Wales scrumhalf and captain, will remain the team's attack coach until the middle of 2016.

With Shaun Edwards signing a new contract last week to stay on as defense coach under head coach Warren Gatland, it ensures Wales will continue with the same managerial team that guided the side to the semifinals of this year's World Cup in New Zealand.

Howley says the "World Cup proved to us as a coaching team that we are heading in the right direction and that just inspires me for the future.''
