O'Driscoll to miss 6 Nations with shoulder injury

Updated: November 07, 2011, 12:33

DUBLIN, Ireland(AP) Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll is set to miss the 2012 Six Nations after being ruled out for up to six months with a shoulder injury.

Irish province Leinster says O'Driscoll will soon undergo surgery for a trapped nerve in his shoulder, which could deprive Ireland of its talismanic center for the whole of the northern hemisphere competition.

O'Driscoll, who has won 117 caps for his country, struggled with a shoulder problem throughout the World Cup in New Zealand, where Ireland was eliminated by Wales in the quarterfinals.

The two countries will meet on Feb. 5 in the first round of Six Nations matches.
