Reports: England manager Martin Johnson quits

Updated: November 16, 2011, 06:19

LONDON(AP) British media report that England manager Martin Johnson has quit in the wake of the team's disappointing Rugby World Cup campaign, which was overshadowed by off-field indiscretions.

England's 2003 World Cup-winnning captain had been in charge of the team since 2008 and his contract was due to expire in December.

England's quarterfinal loss to France in New Zealand was England's worst World Cup showing since 1999.

The Rugby Football Union did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment.
