Updated: January 05, 2012, 07:13

EDINBURGH, Scotland(AP) Scotland has named six uncapped players in its provisional 36-man training squad for the opening two matches of the Six Nations.

All 28 available players from Scotland's 30-man Rugby World Cup squad were included, with fullback Chris Paterson and lock Nathan Hines having retired since the tournament in New Zealand.

Welsh-born center Steven Shingler is one of the uncapped players called up, along with winger Lee Jones, fullback Stuart Hogg, flyhalf Duncan Weir, flanker Robert Harley and utility forward Fraser McKenzie.

Coach Andy Robinson, who will name his captain this month, said "this squad can be very much a work in progress over the coming months.''

Scotland finished next to last in last year's competition.
