WELLINGTON, New Zealand(AP) The professional boxing career of All Blacks rugby star Sonny Bill Williams has hit a new snag with the arrest of his rival for the New Zealand heavyweight title on serious criminal charges.
Midfielder Williams was to fight 33-year-old Richard Tutaki for the vacant title on Feb. 8.
But Auckland police confirmed Saturday that Tutaki is being held in custody after failing to appear in court on charges including possession of methamphetamine and receiving stolen property.
Inspector Gary Allcock said Tutaki was arrested at his girlfriend's home and had been refused bail ahead of his next court appearance on Tuesday.
Dual league and rugby international Williams has won four professional bouts to date but his opponents have included a nightclub bouncer, a digger driver and a 43-year-old gospel singer who was receiving a disability benefit.
