Williams to retire from all rugby at end of season

Updated: February 02, 2012, 13:34

CARDIFF, Wales(AP) Former Wales winger Shane Williams will retire from rugby for good at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old Williams was contracted to the Ospreys until the summer of 2013 but the Welsh province has agreed to release Wales' record tryscorer from his deal a year early.

The Ospreys say Williams will take up an ambassadorial role at the club, where he "will promote rugby in and around the region whilst also working in conjunction with the Ospreys' existing and future commercial partners.''

Williams ended his test career on a high by taking his tally of international tries to 60 - third on the all-time list - with a last-second score against Australia in Wales' 24-18 loss in December.

He played 87 times for Wales and was the world player of the year in 2008.
