2011 Joe Ansbro

Joe Ansbro was born in Glasgow 29th October 1985. He was the first black player to represent Scotland at test level. His favoured position is centre. He is currently signed for Northampton Saints.

Joe was raised near Gatehouse of Fleet in Galloway, South West Scotland. He was educated at Gatehouse Primary School and played youth rugby with Stewartry, the Castle Douglas club. He was also educated at Stonyhurst College near Clitheroe in Lancashire, North West England, before embarking on study of a Natural Sciences degree at Cambridge University.

Joe played for Cambridge in two University match wins against Oxford. In 2006, he joined the Northampton Academy and made his debut for Northampton Saints was as a replacement against Moseley, and that was followed with a try-scoring first start against Rotherham at Franklin’s Gardens. Joe became a regular in the number 13 shirt during their season in National Division One, he also scored in the EDF Energy Trophy final.

Joe made his debut for Scotland in the EMC Autumn Test victory against the world champions, South Africa, at Murrayfield in November 2010.
